NRAI to conduct camp for India's junior shooters

New Delhi :-
A coaching camp will be conducted for India’s junior rifle/pistol and shotgun shooters next month as part of preparations for the junior international tournaments lined up ahead in the year.
The camp for rifle and pistol shooters will be held from April 3-18 under the guidance of chief coaches Deepali Deshpande and Jaspal Rana, a multiple-time Asian Games and Commonwealth Games medallist, at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges here.
The country’s young shotgun shooters will be honing their skills from April 2-12 under the supervision of chief coach Vikram Chopra at the same venue.
A total of 45 male and 40 women shooters will be undergoing the camp in rifle-pistol category.
While there will be 37 men, 15 women shooters will be training for shotgun events.http://www.newsnation.in/article/73301-nrai-conduct-camp-india-junior-shooters.html

Goa may outsource some National Games events

PANAJI: The Goa Olympic Association (GOA) is not in favour of spending extravagantly on creating infrastructure for the National Games 2016, particularly in disciplines like shooting and cycling where interest and participation here is negligible.

Rifle shooting and cycling, for now, has been included among the 30 disciplines for the National Games 2016 but the GOA has called for a special general body meeting later this month to take a final call.

The GOA feels 'outsourcing' the events to Pune or Bangalore could be a better solution.

"Considering the cost of investment, cost of maintenance and number of players involved in the sport here in Goa, the government should think of outsourcing rather than investing heavily. The Games infrastructure should be value for money," GOA general secretary Gurudatta Bhakta told TOI on Sunday.

Bhakta made the same suggestion at last week's National Games organizing committee meeting, chaired by chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, and according to sources had many voices of agreement, including one from defence minister
Manohar Parrikar who also attended the meeting.

According to rough estimates, creation of infrastructure for rifle shooting in Goa could cost approximately Rs 50 crore, while a cycling velodrome would also eat considerably into the games budget.

It's not just the cost of creating infrastructure for rifle shooting and cycling that bothers GOA. "Maintaining it will cost a bomb," said Bhakta.

"Besides, if we create such infrastructure, will it be put to use? We have hardly any rifle shooters in Goa and cycling, at best, is a recreational sport here," he said.

The state government has given the nod for the National Games to be a minimum of 28 games and a maximum of 32 games affair but as the final list gets
prepared there could be severe heartburn for several popular and aspiring games.

The popular sport of baseball -- medal winners for Goa at the Nationals for ages now -- is among the game that is likely to be dropped, largely because it's not an Olympic sport. The same rule, however, is not applicable to squash, another non-Olympic sport, which has not surprisingly found favour with the GOA: the president of the World Squash Federation is N Ramachandran, and if you needed any reminding, is also the president of Indian Olympic Association.

Rugby, netball, fencing and triathlon, all of which featured prominently at the National Games 2015 in Kerala have also been left out in the cold.

Sepaktakraw and wushu have also not found favour.

"The state government has the option of including one or two sports at the National Games but I don't think that will happen in Goa. We cannot afford any extravagant spending," said Bhakta.

ISSF World Championship: 'Live TV for all 15 Olympic events" ISSF Secretary General announced

The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber announced today live TV coverage for the 51st ISSF World Championship in all Shooting events – the first Rio 2016 qualifier for Shooting sport - that will take place in Granada, Spain, from the 6 through the 20 of September 2014.

All the 15 Olympic events in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun discipline will be filmed and distributed live via Eurovision.

“The ISSF is committed to offer the best media coverage ever for it's 51st ISSF World Championship in all Shooting events, which also represent our first qualification event with quota distribution for the Rio 2016 Games.” The ISSF Secretary General said.

“ISSF President Olegario Vazquez RaƱa approved a significant investment to produce and distribute live TV footage of all our 15 Olympic events during the World Championship. We will offer the coverage of all Olympic qualifier Finals via EBU, for technical costs only. Our member federations can contact their national broadcasters, to inform them that the footage will be available on the Eurovision platform.”

The ISSF World Championship in all events takes place every four years, and it's the largest competition governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. In 2010, at the 50th ISSF World Championship in Munich, more than 2000 athletes participated in 55 shooting events, including non-Olympic disciplines, and a comparable number of participants is expected in Granada, this year.

Media coverage is a key feature of the championship, as the ISSF Secretary General remarked: “We will offer a full set of services to media in occasion of our Championship. We've just re-launched our website, www.issf-sports.org, where we will publish live results, statistics and stories, and distribute photos to the press. In the next weeks, we will release a statement with further details.”

“Our aim is to maximize the visibility of our sport in this key moment of the Olympic cycle. Rio 2016 will be an important step forward for our sport. After London 2012, we've changed our Finals, we've changed the scoring system, we've tried to make the sport more spectators-friendly.” Mr. Schreiber added. “The feedbacks we're receiving from spectators and media are extremely positive, and our grassroots are growing as new young athletes join our sport.”

“Today, we have more media coverage than ever before in the history of our Federation. The Shooting Sport is on TV, press, and social media, and President Vazquez and the ISSF will continue to work in this direction, investing for the future of our sport.http://www.issf-sports.org/news.ashx?newsid=2114
